Water prayer card
Water prayer
We gather …
O God, purify our lips that we may sing your praise. Saving God, come near to us. Give us new hearts that we may love as Jesus loved.
We listen…
A reading from the prophet Isaiah. (12:3, 35:1-7)
Joyfully you will draw water from the springs of salvation. Let the wilderness and the dry lands exult, let the wasteland rejoice and bloom, let it bring forth flowers like the jonquil, let it rejoice and sing for joy. Strengthen all weary hands, steady all trembling knees and say to faint hearts, ‘Courage! Do not be afraid.’
Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, the ears of the deaf unsealed, then the lame shall leap like a deer and the tongues of the dumb sing for joy; for water gushes in the desert, streams in the wasteland, the scorched earth becomes a lake, the parched land springs of water.
This is the Word of the Lord.
We reflect and respond …
We ask…
In Baptism, we received the gifts of the Holy Spirit. May those gifts continue to refresh and direct our lives.
Be living water for our thirsty hearts, O Christ:
Comfort us with your presence.
Be living water for our thirsty minds, O Christ:
Enlighten us in our search to understand your word.
Be living water for our thirsty lives, O Christ:
Refresh us with the assurance of your love.
Be water for our thirsty earth, O Christ:
Help us to live in harmony with all creation.
We are sent forth…
Gracious God, you promised us living water. Pour your grace into our hearts so that we can remain faithful to the promises of our Baptism and bring your gifts of healing and courage to those of our brothers and sisters who are sick, fragile and afraid. We ask this through Jesus our brother. Amen.
