Potter prayer card
Potter prayer
We gather…
O God, come to our aid!
Hasten to hear us as we cry to you.
God be our light in time of darkness.
Give us voice to proclaim your love.
We listen…
The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: “Come, go down to the potter’s house and there I will let you hear my words.” So I went down to the potter’s house and there he was working at his wheel. The vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter’s hand and he reworked it into another vessel, as seemed good to him. Then the word of the LORD came to me: Can I not do with you, O House of Israel, just as this potter has done? Just like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, O House of Israel.
Jeremiah 18:1-6
Yet, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.
Isaiah 64:8
We respond…
God, our mother and father, you have chosen us to be children of the light, your daughters and sons, holy people.
Through the power of your Spirit, give us the determination to eliminate those forces that rob others of their rightful dignity…
Hasten the day of freedom, O God.
That no child will feel unloved or unwanted, we cry out…
Hasten the day of freedom, O God.
That no person will be tortured, slain or falsely imprisoned, we cry out…
Hasten the day of freedom, O God.
That no person will be victimized by war or violent crime we cry out…
Hasten the day of freedom, O God.
That no individual, family or social group will be demeaned by racism, sexism or ageism, we cry out…
Hasten the day of freedom, O God.
That no person will feel trapped in a world without hope or meaning, we cry out…
Hasten the day of freedom, O God.
We are sent forth…
Loving God, you inspire us with concern for the well-being of all creation.
Give us strength to transform the compassion of our hearts into acts of mercy and justice
so that through our lives, your caring presence may be evident in our time and culture.
We pray in the name of Jesus our brother. Amen.
