Lighthouse prayer card

Lighthouse prayer

We gather…
O God, come to our aid! Hasten to hear us as we cry to you. God be our light in time of darkness. Give us voice to proclaim your love.

We listen… (Mt 5:13-16)

Jesus said to his disciples: “You are the salt of the earth. But what if salt goes flat? How can you restore its flavour? Then it is good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. People do not light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket. They set it on a stand where it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, your light must shine before men and women so that they may see goodness in your acts and give praise to your heavenly Father.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Rejoice, O earth, in shining splendour,

radiant in the brightness of your King!

Christ has conquered! Glory fills you!

Darkness vanishes for ever!

(From the Easter Proclamation)

We Respond...

We are called to walk in God’s light. With gratitude and wonder, we pray…

Bathe us in your light, O lord, that we may see.

In gratitude for your gifts of the sun, the moon and the stars, we pray…

Bathe us in your light, O lord, that we may see.

For artists and writers who offer us fresh perspectives, we pray…

Bathe us in your light, O lord, that we may see.

For teachers and all who open to us the world of learning, we pray…

Bathe us in your light, O lord, that we may see.

In gratitude for the gifts of physical sight and psychological insight, we pray…

Bathe us in your light, O lord, that we may see.

For women and men who live in the darkness of depression, we pray…

Bathe us in your light, O lord, that we may see.

For all those who feel enclosed by prejudice or misunderstanding, we pray…

Bathe us in your light, O lord, that we may see.

In gratitude for the inspirations of your Spirit, we pray…

Bathe us in your light, O lord, that we may see.

We are sent forth…

The pillar of fire led the Israelites,

the star of Bethlehem led the Magi,

and Jesus, Light of the World, leads us to your presence, O God.

Be our light that we may see, understand, and walk in your truth.

We ask this in the name of Jesus who you revealed to the nations and who sends us forth as disciples. Amen
