Creation Prayer

We gather…
O God, come to our aid! Hasten to hear us as we cry to you. God be our light in time of darkness. Give us voice to proclaim your love.

We listen…
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Psalm 19:1

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the fields exult, and everything in them. Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy!

Psalm 96: 11-12

The one who made the Pleiades and Orion, and turns deep darkness into the morning, and darkens the day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out on the surface of the earth, the LORD is his name. For lo, the one who forms the mountains, creates the wind, reveals his thoughts to mortals, makes the morning darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth—the LORD, the God of hosts, is his name! Amos 5:8; 4:13

For what can be known about God is perfectly plain since God himself has made it plain. Ever since God created the world, his everlasting power and divinity-however invisible-have been there for the mind to see in the things that he has made.

God of joy and celebration, we rejoice and pray, full of gratitude for the gift of creation:

Praise and thanks to you, our God!
For the beauty of the earth…

Praise and thanks to you, our God!
For the sun, the moon and the stars…

Praise and thanks to you, our God!
For all animals, birds of the air and fishes in the sea…

Praise and thanks to you, our God!
For fertile farmland in abundant forests…

Praise and thanks to you, our God!
For oceans, lakes, rivers and streams…

Praise and thanks to you, our God!
Mountains, deserts, prairies and wetlands…

Praise and thanks to you, our God!
Flowers, fruits and all the abundance of the land…
Praise and thanks to you, our God!

We are sent forth…
O God, all creation sings your praise and proclaims your marvellous deeds. We thank you for the gift of life and beg your protection for all you have made. We ask this through Christ Jesus, who valued the lilies of the field and the birds of the air and who knows our every need. Amen
