During the third week of Advent, we focus on good news for all through the birth of Christ.
We Gather
(Lighting of the third candle (pink) of the Advent Wreath – the Joy Candle)
Leader: We light the 3rd Advent Candle as a sign of joy — a testimony to the Light of God coming into our world that will shatter the darkness and bring healing to all who suffer and mourn.
All: Loving God, we thank you for the joy you bring us. Help us prepare our hearts for this gift. Bless our worship. Help us to hear and to do your word. We ask it in the name of the one born in Bethlehem, Jesus our Lord. Amen.
We Listen
Isaiah 61:1-2a; 10-11
Leader: The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me;
he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the broken-hearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners;
to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favour, and the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn;
I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my whole being shall exult in my God;
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
For as the earth brings forth its shoots, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations.
The Word of the Lord
All: Thanks be to God.
We Respond
Leader: O God, you joyfully embraced humanity for our sake. With gratitude we pray:
All: Come, Christ our saviour.
Leader: May justice and peace in our world be the fruits of justice and peace in our hearts.
All: Come, Christ our saviour.
Leader: May we always have the eyes to see Christ in the unknown face.
All: Come, Christ our saviour.
Leader: May we reach out the gentle hand of Christ in situations beyond our understanding.
All: Come, Christ our saviour.
Leader: May we always choose to soothe rather than condemn.
All: Come, Christ our saviour.
Leader: May we be with and for one another, in a spirit of solidarity and love with all God’s people.
All: Come, Christ our saviour.
We Go
All: O God, your will is justice for the poor and peace for the afflicted. May the news of the dawn of your coming bring healing to our hearts and may your promise of salvation fill us with joy and hope. Amen
